Coach Pete
Coach Glenn Peterson, or Coach Pete, coached cross-country at Air Academy High School from 1966 - 2014. Originally from Nebraska, Coach Pete moved to Colorado in 1962 and began teaching wood shop at Air Academy High School. Throughout the years he coached basketball, football, track, and cross-country. When he began coaching cross-country he had fifteen boys on the team. Today the team has about sixty boys and girls. Coach Pete retired from teaching in 1989, but continued to coach cross-country with his co-head coach Steve Rischling. Coach Pete was 86 his last year of coaching. He passed away on December 15th, 2014 after battling leukemia.
Coach Pete will always be remembered for his wisdom, kindness, encouragement, and joyful spirit. Over the years he inspired hundreds of youth to not only become better athletes, but also better people. When asked how he felt about coaching on his 85th birthday he replied, "A lot of people my age don't want to be around kids. I love being around them."
